About Release The Monkey

Release The Monkey is a music and art co-op based in Buffalo, New York that strives to act as a community for musicians, writers, visual artists, and techies in which to improve the local arts scene through active collaboration and networking.

RTM was started by a small group of local musicians and artists in summer 2006 as a response to what was perceived as a need for community and partnership between the music & artistic communities. Rather than continue to complain about the state of things, these musicians, whith the help of other local performers and artists, came up with the idea of a Community Co-op for musicians & artists: Release The Monkey.

The idea for this co-op is based on previous experience working with small theatre companies where tight-knit artistic collaboration and friendships are a vital way of life. These companies consisted of artist and performers from various disciplines who came together to collaborate on shows as well as to form a strong basis of networking and friendships throught the local arts community.

We belive that networking and collaboration are fundamental to the continued growth and improvement of the local musical and artist community, and strive to improve those bonds and connections.

Mission Statement:

Release The Monkey will strive to provide a community-based music & art Co-op for the purposes of:
